A three-day preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a man charged in relation to a central Alberta homicide last year.
Elijah Traves Strawberry, 28, is scheduled to find out in Calgary Court of Justice from May 26-29, 2025, if his case has enough evidence to go to trial.
It was on Feb. 28, 2025, when officers arrested Elijah Strawberry at the Red Deer Remand Centre where he was in custody on unrelated matters.
On Apr. 30, 2024, at approximately 12:07 p.m., Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a report of a deceased male on the O’Chiese First Nation. Officers attended and located 21-year-old Jayden Carter with a gunshot wound. As a result, the Alberta Major Crimes Unit took carriage of the investigation.
Strawberry, a resident of O’Chiese First Nation, was charged with the following offences:
- Manslaughter;
- Fail to comply with a weapon prohibition order;
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon.
Strawberry was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded in custody.
