Five top U13AA hockey teams from across the province will be in Rocky Mountain House March 27-30 for provincials.
This weekend’s participants include U13AA West Central Tigers (host), the Strathcona Warriors (north urban division champ), the Sherwood Park Steel Kings (north metro champs), Red Deer Wesco Chiefs (south champs), Calgary Royals (Calgary city champs).
Rochelle Stephenson, provincial chair for this weekend’s U13AA tournament, says the host West Central Tigers team is a hub for central Alberta players, as AA players from Rocky are on the roster, as well as from communities such as Bentley, Eckville, Sylvan Lake and Rimbey.
The Tigers kicked off the tournament with a 5-3 victory against Red Deer on Thursday night.
Stephenson adds that the public is invited to watch any of the games, and that admission is free. “We’d love to get as many fans in the stands as we can. It’s a pretty big deal for the players this weekend.”

The tournament will be played at the Rocky Arena.
Elsewhere, Lacombe previously hosted the U13B male provincials, and Red Deer hosted the U18A Female provincials— both tournaments ran from March 20-23.
