The Town of Rocky Mountain House has once again been recognized for excellence in financial reporting, earning the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the fifth consecutive year.
The award honours the town’s annual financial report for the year ending December 31, 2023, which is available to residents online.
“This is a great achievement for council, staff, and the entire community,” the town said in an online post announcing the award.
The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting program was established to encourage municipal governments across Canada to produce high-quality financial documents, while also providing peer recognition and technical guidance for those preparing the reports.
Each submission is reviewed by members of a Canadian Review Committee to determine whether it meets the program’s high standards. Reports must demonstrate a “spirit of full disclosure” and aim to clearly communicate a municipality’s financial story in a way that engages and informs residents and stakeholders.
In a news release dated April 15, the GFOA said the town of Rocky Mountain House’s financial report was found to meet these standards and effectively motivates users to better understand the town’s financial position.
The GFOA is a professional association serving more than 21,000 government finance professionals across North America.
