Ecole Rocky Elementary School is rewinding the clock by bringing the past to the present.
Back in 1989, the students of Rocky Elementary and past Vice Principal Bill Symko created a time capsule. They buried the capsule in the school foyer garden with hopes it would be opened in 25 years (2014), according to school officials, some good things wait a little longer.
Ecole Rocky Elementary shared on its Facebook, in January 2021, current Principal, Tim Bowman, attempted to find the rumored time capsule but came up empty handed. Bowman would make another attempt to locate the time capsule in August of 2021. This time Bowman would not give up easily, the plants in the foyer were taken out, the dirt was removed and the metal barrier was sawed into. After all of this hard work the time capsule would be found after 32 years.
Ecole Elementary noted that it took three days to officially remove the capsule from the foyer, and since August, the unopened capsule has been on display at the school.
Ecole Elementary will be finally opening the 1989 time capsule at their Centennial Celebration, Friday, May 20, starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m.
