A time-honoured tradition with a generous heart is returning to the Elks Hall in Leslieville later this month, as the local group gears up for its annual stag auction on Friday, May 23.
Hosted by the Leslieville Elks, the event is one of the lodge’s biggest fundraisers of the year, with proceeds going back into the community. The evening is set to benefit everything from local food banks and women’s shelters to local schools and youth programs.
“It’s about community helping community,” said Myles Wasik, exalted ruler of the Leslieville Elks and one of the event’s lead organizers. “Every dollar raised goes right back out—to the people and causes who need it most.”
Doors open at 5 p.m., with a roast beef supper served at 6 p.m., followed by the live auction at 7. Admission is $10, which covers dinner and refreshments.
As the name suggests, the stag auction is a classic men’s night out—though Wasik notes there will be “a few items for the ladies,” in case any attendees want to bring something home to say thanks.
From tools and barbecues to clothing and even guided trips, the auction table will be stacked high with donated goods, generously contributed by individuals, businesses, and organizations from across Rocky, Leslieville, and Eckville.

Two local, top-tier auctioneers will take the mic: Michael Jennings, a well-known local talent, and Dean Edge, a world champion auctioneer from Rimbey.
“They do an excellent job getting the crowd going and the items sold,” Wasik said.
Wasik adds, a free drive-home service will be available.
The success of the event wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers and members of the Leslieville Elks themselves, Wasik emphasized. “We’ve got an amazing group of members who dedicate their time to make this happen. And we’re always welcoming new faces—if you’ve got a bit of time and a heart for helping, come see us.”
The Elks Lodge is located right across from the community centre.
