More than 100 students from West Central High School will cross the stage this Friday, as the school hosts its 2025 graduation ceremony.
The event, set for 1:00 p.m. on June 6 at the school, will celebrate 104 graduates.
Rather than naming a traditional valedictorian, West Central continues its tradition of selecting two “historians” — students elected by their graduating class to deliver the address at grad. The school does not base the role purely on academic performance.
The ceremony will be attended by a number of dignitaries, including MLA Jason Nixon, Rocky Mountain House Acting Mayor Len Phillips, Clearwater County Reeve Michelle Swanson, and elders Mary and Glenn Waskewitch from Bighorn First Nation. Brad Volkman, Superintendent of Wild Rose School Division, and Billie-Jo Grant, Indigenous Education Specialist, are also expected to take part.
Staff member Whitney Boyd, who helps coordinate the ceremony, says this year’s ceremony will also include a moment in honour of Tel Rhine, a Grade 11 student who passed away during the 2023–24 school year. His name will be read aloud alongside his peers, and family members are expected to walk the stage in his memory.
