Clear out the clutter and get ready to treasure hunt — Kick It to the Curb is back in Rocky Mountain House this weekend.
The popular town-wide reuse event runs Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15, offering residents a chance to give away unwanted items while scouting out curbside freebies across the community.
“It is a way to encourage residents to reduce the waste headed to landfills,” says Laura Button, communications coordinator with the Town of Rocky Mountain House. “It gets more and more popular every year with people curbside shopping.”
The idea is simple: residents place gently used items at the front of their property clearly marked with a “FREE” sign, then others are free to browse and take what they’d like. From books and board games to furniture, toys, electronics, craft supplies and kitchen gadgets, there’s no shortage of possibilities.
Printable signs are available here.
The town reminds residents to only take items that are clearly marked as free, and to make sure anything they intend to keep is stored safely away from the curb. At the end of the weekend, leftover items should be brought back inside or disposed of responsibly.
To make cleanup a little easier, waste disposal fees at the Rocky Eco Centre will be waived from June 17 to 21 — though regular charges will still apply for mattresses and freon appliances.
