A major watermain replacement project at the intersection of Hwy. 11A and 60 St. is expected to disrupt traffic and pedestrian routes for the next two to three weeks.
Construction is set to begin shortly as crews tie a new 200mm watermain into existing infrastructure at the busy intersection. The work comes after multiple breaks and ongoing issues with the aging line, which serves as a junction for underground utilities in the area.
Town officials say spot repairs have become increasingly disruptive and costly. The project will replace the failing infrastructure using directional drilling.
The work is being funded through the town’s utility reserve.
As part of the construction, two properties will be placed on a temporary water supply, while others in the area will experience a four-hour interruption in service. Affected residents will be notified directly.
Traffic detours and sidewalk closures will be in effect throughout the duration of the project. Westbound motorists on Hwy 11A who wish to turn north on 60 Street will be detoured via 52A Avenue and 58 Street.
Speed reduction and sidewalk closure signs will be posted, and pedestrian access will be restricted on the west side of 60 Street, as well as on pathways from 52A Avenue to 60 Street.
