A new space for the town’s tiniest four-legged residents is nearing completion at the off-leash dog park in Rocky Mountain House.
The town is adding a dedicated area for small dogs—those weighing 30 pounds or less—at the north end of the existing park, in response to requests from the community.
“We’ve had a lot of feedback from residents asking for a space just for small dogs,” said Laura Button, communications coordinator with the town of Rocky Mountain House. “This project is really about meeting that need and making the park more enjoyable and safe for dogs of all sizes.”
The new section will be fenced off from the main area and feature its own double-gated entrance. Signage is expected to be installed this week, with full completion anticipated soon after.

Button said the contractor was able to begin work earlier than expected after a scheduling opening last week. Once the fencing, gate, and signage are in place, the small dog area will officially open.
The small dog park will be accessible via the main walking trail in the wooded section of the larger park. Users will need to exit the main park to access the small-dog area.
A community-led “Rainbow Bridge” initiative to remember family pets who have passed away was also added to the dog park early in 2025.
