A playground in Rocky Mountain House could soon be getting a much needed face lift after a reallocation of funds.
According to Doug Fraser, Director of Engineering and Operations, William Jessop Park playground is a much older, wooden playground that does require replacements so it meets modern standards. On the other side, says Fraser, John Plathan playground is in good condition and its service life can be extended.
The proposed budget reallocates the capital budget funds for John Plathan Park from $65,000 down to $0, and putting it towards William Jessop Park, bumping it up from $30,000 to $85,000. This way the Town would also save $10,000, says Fraser.
Councillor Tina Hutchinson noted, after having her grandkids play at a wooden park, they went home with a few slivers. Hutchinson added, she is interested in reallocating the budget.
“This one is a savings to do the reallocation. I think because we looked at the park that was on the rotation, that one doesn’t need to be updated. The other one does need to be updated and we save $10,000. I think that’s a win on all the fronts,” shared Councillor Merrin Fraser.
At the end of discussions for reallocating the budget, town council unanimously decided it would be the better option to move the funds to fix up William Jessop Park.
