Citing less a less than desirable weather forecast, the Western Wheels Auto Club has announced its annual “big show” show ‘n shine has been postponed to Aug. 9.

Originally slated for Saturday July 26, club president Andy Smith says the forecast just isn’t cooperating.

He adds, the decision didn’t come lightly, as folk from all over Alberta and beyond had put the car show in their calendars.

“I hope this news gets out around the province, because we have people coming from near and far,” said Smith.

The good news is Smith assures everyone that it’ll be the same big show, just on a different date.

Show organizers are expecting between 130 and 150 classic cars, taking up three whole blocks in the center of town.

Smith says anyone can register their car for the day for $20. No preregistration is required, simply show up at 9 a.m. to register.

He adds, well over 1,000 spectators took in the event in 2024, with cars coming from as far away as Manitoba and the United States.

Participants have a chance to win awards, including ‘People’s Choice’, ‘Young Guns’, and ‘Long Distance Award’.

Visitors will also be able to bid on silent auction items, with partial proceeds being donated back to local organizations including the Compassionate Care Hospice Society, ROAR Society, Mountain Rose Women’s Shelter, and more.

The Western Wheels Auto Club has donated more than $30,000 to charities over the last decade, Smith estimates.

Back again this year, the Man Van will be returning. Travelling across Canada to events frequented by men, Smith says the Man Van offers free, non-invasive early prostate cancer screening for men right inside the van.

“Our show is a fairly big one, we have participants from all over” says Smith. “We encourage people to come out and see the show, and talk to people from different areas.”

Later in the summer, the Western Wheels Auto Club will be showing off their rides at other area car shows, including Nordegg Days on Aug. 30, and the Leslieville Block Party Sept. 13.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the show kicking off at 11 a.m., and running until about 3 p.m. all along Main St. Rocky.
