A group looking to bring a sports dome to Rocky Mountain House is taking things to the next level as it’s set to hold its first annual general meeting (AGM), Aug. 7.
Since early 2025, the group has been envisioning a sports dome that could accommodate year-round activities such as football, lacrosse, baseball, as well as a walking track.
Megan Armet, one of the co-founders of the Rocky Dome Society says the upcoming AGM will be a brainstorming session, where community members come together to share their hopes and vision for the dome.
The estimated cost for such a project is between $12 million and $15 million, says Armet. The group also plans to approach both the town of Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County for support, as well as seek government grants.
A sports dome would fill a critical need in the community, says Armet, adding she’s spoken with many families who often travel to Red Deer, sometimes on slippery winter roads, to use the sports dome on Gasoline Alley.

She adds, a sports dome would lend to more competitive local sports teams as they’d have an extra venue to practice. The walking track, she says, would also lead to an increased standard of living for all community members, notably local seniors.
Though the location for the dome hasn’t been finalized, Armet mentioned potential “wish list” spots near the airport, close to the arena, or near the rodeo grounds.
For those interested in helping to see the initiative realized, they’re invited to attend the AGM on Thursday Aug. 7 at Rival Trade Brewing Co. at 6:30 p.m.
Armet also encourages folks to check out the group’s Facebook page.
