This is a candidate profile for Rocky Mountain House resident Justin Sinclair, who is running for town council this fall.
Please provide a little background on yourself, including how long you’ve lived in the area.
My name is Justin Sinclair; I am a 4th generation resident of Rocky Mountain House. I grew up in Rocky until I Graduated from Will Sinclair High School class of 2000. My father worked in the Oil and Gas industry and my mother worked in the Engineered lumber industry. I was destined to follow one of these paths, after High School I did follow my father and worked on the Drilling Rigs for a year to save money for college. I then went off to further my education at Red Deer College (now known as Red Deer Polytechnic.) To pursue and achieve my Degree in Technical Theatre Studies. After college like most people, I spent some time figuring out life until I got my break working on Cruise Ships.
Working on some of the world’s largest Cruise Ships allowed me to travel the world and explore and observe other places and culture, this was such a blessing until 2009 when I was hired to work on the world’s largest water show in Macau, China. I lived and worked in Macau for 11 years up until the COVID 19 pandemic would then cause everything to change. This brought me back to Rocky and I have now been home for 5 years.
Why do you want to run for council?
I want to run for council because I believe that communities should always be moving in ways of development and growth. Be it actual developments from residential or commercial to cultural growth, this kind of action will always benefit and enhance the community for those that live here. And Rocky Mountain House seems to be stuck right now, and I want to get involved in working towards getting our community back on the tracks of prosperity.
What personal or professional experience do you feel would make you a good councillor?
I believe that my generational experience of being a resident of Rocky Mountain House combined with my life experience from my career and living abroad will bring a refreshed outlook to the council. I have seen a large part of the world and have had a lot of firsthand experiences living in communities that have had impressive projects that I really admire. So, with this combined I have a lot to offer my community.
If elected, what would be a few top priorities?
-
Development: Residential, Commercial, and Economical
-
Infrastructure development: Future proofing projects that keep us on track for continued growth.
-
Senior Welfare: We have many ageing in our population, and there is not enough being done for a comfortable way of life. So how can we make things more accessible or accommodating for their needs?
-
Community Recreational outreach and involvement: Bring back community activities like David Thompson Days, Communities in Bloom, Festival of Culture, Festival of Trees at Christmas etc.
