After a successful event in the spring, the Rocky Mountain Flying Club will be hosting its fall Introduction to Aviation event Oct. 4 at the Rocky Airport.
A highlight for the event: those who pre-register will buckle up for a free ride around the West Country in real aircraft.
Al Aker speaking about this year’s Introduction to Aviation event
Geared toward youth who may be considering careers in aviation, the event is also open to folks of all ages who are interested in flight, or who just desire the thrill of taking to the skies.
“We do ask for pre-registration so we know how many people are coming,” said Al Aker, coordinator with the Flying Club. “Each pilot will fly three or four times, so there is a limit to how many people we can take.”
Participants will also take part in a mini ground school and hear from a current commercial pilot student about careers in aviation.
The club has been offering the program since 2009, and Aker says several past participants have gone on to become professional pilots.
“We’ve helped some of them earn their licences and seen them return to fly with us,” he said.
Those interested in registering can call Aker at 403-845-0978, or email 44flyeraa@gmail.com.
Aker says activities will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 4.
