This is a candidate profile for Sarah Fotty who’s running for Rocky Mountain House town council.
Please provide a little background on yourself, including how long you’ve lived in the area.
I have been a proud resident of this community for almost 15 years. My family and I chose to move to Rocky Mountain House because we knew it was the kind of place where we wanted to live, work, and raise our family.
Over that time, I have been actively involved as a volunteer in local sports, recreation, and community initiatives and events. Giving my time and energy to support individuals and programs has deepened my connection to the people who live here and strengthened my commitment to our community.
Why do you want to run for council?
I want to run for council because I care deeply about the future of our community. I believe that by working together, we can make thoughtful decisions that support growth, create opportunities, and ensure that our community remains welcoming and vibrant for families, individuals, seniors, and businesses alike.
What personal or professional experience do you feel would make you a good councillor?
I have had the privilege of working collaboratively with businesses, organizations, and colleges to bring new programs and opportunities to our community. I have worked with different levels of government and successfully managed grants that support local initiatives. I also value working one-on-one with individuals, helping them achieve their personal and professional goals.
My background is diverse, with experience in the oil field in Northern Alberta, as well as within the health care and education systems. This range of experience has given me a well-rounded perspective and an appreciation for the many different lifestyles that exist in our community.
Through my volunteer work in sports, recreation, and community initiatives, I have learned the importance of listening, building relationships, and working as a team. Combined with strong organizational skills and a collaborative approach, I believe these experiences prepare me to serve effectively as a councillor.
If elected, what would be a few top priorities?
If elected, a few of my top priorities would include:
-
Listening and engaging with residents so decision-making reflects the voices of the people who live here.
-
Supporting community programs and recreation so all residents have access to activities that build connection and wellness.
-
Looking at ways to bring affordable housing and multi-family options to ensure individuals and families have access to suitable homes.
-
Promoting responsible growth and development that balances economic opportunity with preserving the character of our community.
Is there anything else you’d like to add
It has been a privilege to give back to this community through volunteering, and I would consider it an honour to be selected to represent our community as a member of town council.
