A three-week jury trial has been scheduled for a pair of suspects charged in a central Alberta homicide nearly two years ago.
Kyle Thomas Whitehorse, 27, a resident of O’Chiese First Nation, and Bradley Jerome Jerry, 34, a resident of Edmonton, are scheduled for a jury trial in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench from Feb. 1-19, 2027.
Whitehorse is charged with second-degree murder, while Jerry is charged with first/second-degree murder in the death of Sheridan Goodrunning.
It was on Dec. 3, 2023, at 8:23 a.m. when Rocky Mountain House RCMP received a report of a shooting that occurred at the Sunchild First Nation Gas Station.
Upon arrival, Mounties say emergency crews tended to the male victim. However, he died as-a-result of his injuries.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and initially found that while at the gas bar, the victim and a suspect got into a verbal altercation that resulted in the alleged suspect shooting the victim.
Police said at the time, it appeared the shooting was the result of an altercation and sudden escalation, adding they were unable to discern a link between the victim or any potential suspects. A photo of the suspect vehicle was released soon afterward to help in the search for the suspect or suspects.
Then on Sept. 13, 2024, RCMP arrested and charged Kyle Whitehorse in connection with the incident, while a second suspect, Bradley Jerry, was still at-large.
Five days later, on Sept. 18, 2024, Jerry was located and safely arrested by the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit on the O’Chiese First Nation.
