This is a candidate profile for Lorne Humphrey who’s running for election to Clearwater County council, hoping to represent residents in Ward 7.
Please provide a little background on yourself, including how long you’ve lived in the area.
I’ve lived in Clearwater County, north of Highway 12, for over 50 years. I grew up here, raised my family here, and still live on part of the family farm.
Why do you want to run for council?
I am running for Clearwater County councillor for Ward 7 this year because I feel the people aren’t being listened to as much as they should be. I would like to bring common sense decision making back into our municipal government.
What personal or professional experience do you feel would make you a good councillor?
My career is rooted in the oil and gas industry, with experience as a journeyman welder and journeyman crane operator. For the last 20 years, I’ve worked as a pipeline and facilities construction consultant, managing major projects across Alberta which has given me the skills to manage large projects on a timely and cost effective basis.
If elected, what would be a few top priorities?
My top priorities if elected include:
-
Ensuring transparency and accountability in local government
-
Preserving the rural lifestyle valued by the community
-
Fostering community engagement
-
Actively listening to residents
Where can people learn more about you and your priorities?
