Rocky Rams coaching staff say the 2025/26 roster is growing in depth and the team is starting to click following a win and a loss over the Sept. 26-27 weekend.
The Rams won 5-1 against the Ponoka Stampeders in front of a hometown crowd on Friday night.
“Overall, our effort was good — it was a scambly type game, so it was a little harder to play in,” says coach Cody McLellan. “But our boys managed the ice well, put a lot of shots on their goalie, and things worked out.”
The team then hit the road for a Saturday evening tilt with the Red Deer Vipers, which saw the Rams fall 4-1.
“The score doesn’t do the game justice — it was a really close game up until the last few minutes.” said McLellan. “[There were] a few missed opportunities, and they capitalized.”
McLellan adds, the team is growing in depth, with GM Wendall Mason working hard to add pieces to the roster as higher level leagues make cuts.
In the meantime, McLellan says the team has room for improvement in a few areas — namely the powerplay — and will work on it this week in preparation for a short road trip.
The 1-2 Rams will meet the Airdrie Thunder Oct. 3 and the Okotoks Bisons Oct. 4.
