It’s been an uphill climb for the Rocky Rams to start the 2025/26 campaign, but team officials remain optimistic that the best is yet to come.
The Rams are 1-5 so far after suffering three straight losses during a busy Oct 3-5 stretch.
Oct 3 @ Airdrie Thunder
Despite a 4-3 loss, head coach Cody McLellan says it’s a game the Rams deserved to win.
“We outplayed Airdrie in every aspect of the game,” he says. “They got a couple lucky bounces, and we didn’t get that in return.”
Despite a good effort, the loss unfortunately set the tone for the whole weekend.
Oct 4 @ Okotokos Bisons
McLellan says the squad wasn’t as sharp against Okotoks as it was against Airdrie, and the home team capitalized.
The Rams ran into penalty trouble, he adds. Despite a successful seven-minute penalty kill, time shorthanded contributed to another frustrating result.
“Another loss — it kind of wears on you,” says McLellan.
Final score: 6-2 Okotoks
Oct 5 vs. Wheatland Kings
A depleted team returned home on Sunday to face the Wheatland Kings.
Thanks to injuries, a forward had to play defense.
“We were tired and didn’t have a full lineup, it is what it is,” said McLellan.
Final score: 6-2 Wheatland
The Rams will head to southern Alberta for a pair of Thanksgiving matchups:
Oct 11 @ Coaldale Copperheads
Oct 12 @ Medicine Hat Cubs
“The south teams are all fairly good,” says McLellan. “We’re going to go to work on our powerplay this week.”
McLellan adds, a road trip might be a good chance for the team to bond, as there are many new faces on the roster to start the year.
Next Rams home action is Oct. 17 vs. the Ponoka Stampeders.
