The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has been downgraded to “moderate” following a “high” designation to start October.
Due to moisture from recent rain and snow, officials say the wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has eased.
Although conditions have improved in the short term, risk remains as vegetation goes dormant for the season. Officials say dormant vegetation loses its moisture, making it more flammable and allowing wildfires to start and spread easily.
A fire restriction remains in effect for the town of Rocky Mountain House and for portions of the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area east of the Forestry Trunk Rd.
The restriction prohibits all outdoor wood fires on public lands, including in backcountry and random camping areas. Fireworks, exploding targets, and most burning on private land are also banned.
Some activities are still permitted, including safe wood campfires in designated campgrounds or on private property, if contained in an approved fire ring
A less severe fire advisory remains in effect for certain parts of the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, including the Whitegoat and Siffleur wilderness areas.
There are currently no active wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area.
