It was one step forward and two steps back for the Rocky Rams as the team has just returned from a southern Alberta road rip that bore mixed results.
OCT 11 @ Coaldale Copperheads (5-4 win in OT)
The team was bolstered by a pair of roster additions including C Finn Bagley who spent time with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL and local defenseman Mettao Sardinha.
“We played well as a group,” says coach Cody McLellan. “I’ve seen some growth in our group, so it was a good game that way.”
Unfortunately, McLellan says Bagley likely won’t be part of the group long-term, as he’s between WHL teams.
Keagan Landry was the overtime hero around 90 seconds into the extra frame to seal the deal.
OCT 12 @ Medicine Hat Cubs (8-5 loss)
The game against the Cubs was not quite as successful, however.
The team dug themselves an early hole getting down 6-1 in the first period.
Despite a claw-back effort in the final 40 minutes, which included two goals that were waved off, the team ended up losing 8-5.
Next game: OCT 17 vs. Ponoka Stampeders
The 2-6 Rams will look to improve on a slow start to the year against the Ponoka Stampeders.
“Ponoka’s struggling, those teams are always hungry and looking to surprise you,” says McLellan. “Ponoka will come out hard, and we’re just going to have to stay with them.”
Game time is 8:30 p.m. at the Rocky Arena.
