Municipal election results are now official for both Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County.
The election brought its share of close races, with several incumbents voted out of office.
Rocky Mountain House
With the results confirmed, former councillor Shane Boniface is the town’s new mayor-elect. Joining him on council are Denise Boniface, Trevor Kalyn, Ken Moesker, Dale Shippelt, Justin Sinclair and Kevin Stalker.
Incumbents Marley Capraro, Tina Hutchinson and Len Phillips, who had been serving as acting mayor, lost their re-election bids. Councillor Dave Auld did not run.
A total 1,555 voters cast their ballots.
The town of Rocky Mountain House’s returning officer will be conducting a recount on the ballots cast for councillor on the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 24 in accordance with provincial legislation. The recount results will be posted by 5:00 p.m.
The new council will meet on Oct. 28 ahead of the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 30, at town office.
Clearwater County
Official results confirm Breanne Powell (Ward 1), Hazen Letwin (Ward 2), Drew McKay (Ward 3), Jordon Northcott (Ward 4), Tyler McCauley (Ward 5), Bryan Cermak (Ward 6) and Lorne Humphrey (Ward 7) have been elected.
Voters in Clearwater County also opted for change, as incumbents Genny Mehlhaff (Ward 1), Daryl Lougheed (Ward 3), Neil Ratcliffe (Ward 5) and Michelle Swanson (Ward 7) were defeated.
Following tight races, recounts were held in Wards 5 and 6. Tyler McCauley won by eight votes over James Cuthill, while incumbent Bryan Cermak narrowly held his seat in Ward 6 with a four-vote margin over Russell Barnett.
The new council will be sworn in during an organizational meeting on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 9 a.m. The meeting will include the swearing-in ceremony and the election of councillors to boards and committees.
