All seven members of Clearwater County’s newly-elected council were sworn into office on Oct. 30.

County voters opted for a refresh on council as five new members and two veterans from the previous administration will make up the 2025-29 council.

At the proceeding organizational meeting, council appointed Jordon Northcott as reeve.

 

Northcott says it was an enjoyable fall campaign, adding that the best part was meeting residents at their doorsteps — something he wishes could happen more often in such a large county.

In meeting with residents, he says a number of them expressed appreciation of his advocacy for agriculture and the county’s rural character.

Northcott adds, many folks he spoke with indicated they were seeking change.

“People who I had an opportunity to speak with, they didn’t want to be baffled,” he says. “They want documents to be presented to them in clear and simple form, and really, the community just wants to be heard,” he says.

The reeve says he’s very optimistic about the council, adding that newly-elected members Hazen Letwin, Breanne Powell, Lorne Humphrey, Drew McKay and Tyler McCauley care deeply about the region and will bring a lot to the table.

In the early days of the new council, Northcott predicts key issues will be Land Use considerations and priority budgeting discussions.

Newly-elected councillor Drew McKay was also appointed deputy reeve during the organizational meeting.
