The Rocky swimming pool facility has a new name — the Cooperative Aquatic Centre.
Formerly known as the Credit Union Co-op Aquatic Centre, town officials say the new name reflects the ongoing support of two co-operative agencies: Evergreen Co-op and Rocky Credit Union.
Laura Button, communications co-ordinator with the Town of Rocky Mountain House, says the two major community partners have renewed an agreement to support maintenance at the aquatic centre.
She says the name change also aligns the pool with other town facilities, including the Cooperative Spray Park and the Cooperative Bike Park.
“Collaboration and co-operation are values the Town of Rocky Mountain House stands for,” Button said.
Under the agreement, $15,000 per year — $75,000 over five years — will be directed to ongoing maintenance and improvements at the aquatic facility.

Nancy Laperriere, manager of wealth and marketing at Rocky Credit Union says it was important to change the sign at the aquatic centre to align with the cooperatives’ goals throughout the community.
“We like to support everyone from youth to seniors in our community,” she says. “We know the aquatic centre does that — we support as many initiatives as we can to support everyone in our community.”
Andrea Kriftoff, marketing manager for Evergreen Co-op says it’s just a continuation of the organizations’ longstanding commitment to value-added initiatives for the West Country.
“We really value our partnership with Credit Union, it’s just another initiative we do together,” she says. “That includes the bike park, spray park, and a number of community events throughout the year.”
Events throughout the year assisted by the cooperative include Fur Trade Christmas, Crimson Lake Winterfest, Kids Carnival and summer community BBQs.
