The Fur Trade Christmas event is back at the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site on Dec. 6, 2025, offering a full day of family-friendly holiday activities.
Organized annually by the Confluence Heritage Society, the free event has been a community favourite for more than a decade, giving visitors the chance to celebrate the season in a historic winter setting.
This year’s activities include sleigh rides, tobogganing — with guests encouraged to bring their own sleds — snowshoeing, and a chance to meet Fur Trade Santa.
The event will also have plenty of free food and drink, with guests invited to grab a hot dog, hot cocoa or bannock on a stick.
Crafts and cookie decorating will also be available for children.
While the vast majority of events are free, there will be an indoor Christmas vendor market where attendees can shop for gifts.
Volunteer Emily Korolew says to dress warmly, as most activities take place outside.
Free transportation is again being offered through Rocky Cabs. Residents can call 403-895-3007 and mention Fur Trade Christmas to access the sponsored ride program, ensuring everyone has a chance to attend.
The event runs Saturday Dec. 6 from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Korolew says the long-running event is a wonderful way for the community to come together and celebrate the holiday season.
