The Rocky Rams are 9-15-1 on the season after a win and a loss in front of hometown fans on Dec. 11 and 12.
Dec. 12 vs. Red Deer Vipers
A flurry of third period power play goals was the difference maker as the Rams bested their North Division rivals 5-2 in a Friday night thriller.
The Rams ended 40 minutes in a 1-1 situation.
Around 90 second into the third, Landon Green found the go-ahead goal on the power play, with Keagan Landry and Cooper Lawrence adding insurance markers in the next ten minutes of play.
Despite the Vipers Brady Leroux finding the net with his own power play goal at 12:29, the Rams sealed the deal with an empty-netter.
Head coach Wendall Mason credits the team with playing a complete game, with all four lines contributing.
Dec. 13 vs. Medicine Hat Cubs
Medicine Hat’s offensive weapons went to work early with Nolen Sutherland and Kyle Woolridge finding their 17th and 18th goals of the seasons. Both players are top ten goals scorers in HJHL.
However, with 45 seconds to go in the second frame, Keagan Landry found the net to cut Medicine Hat’s lead to one.
The Rams got a late goal from forward Bret Hymers, but fell short of a full comeback in a 4-2 losing effort.
Despite the score, it was a fun evening at the Rocky Arena, as it was the annual Teddy Bear Toss Night in support of Santa’s Anonymous.
After Green’s goal in the second period, teddy bears hit the ice.
While he doesn’t have a final total of donations, Mason says the annual donation drive is always a fun night at the rink, as everyone seems to have a little extra pep in their step.
Next up: two games before the Christmas break
Before breaking for the holidays, the Rams will play two games against the Airdrie Techmation Thunder.
Dec. 19 @ Airdrie
Dec. 20 at home starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Rocky Arena.
Mason says he hopes to have some players back from injury — particularly Ty Hanson who has been out of the lineup.
“We’ll keep building off the identity we’ve started in the last 10 to 14 days of working hard and being rewarded for it,” he adds.
The two team have only met once so far this season, a 4-3 Thunder victory back on Oct. 3.
