The Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission is looking at redrawing maps throughout the province, including breaking up the current Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre riding.
The town of Rocky Mountain House would be in a new district called Lacombe-Rocky Mountain House.
The new constituency would stretch from Rocky Mountain House way out east through Gull Lake, Bentley and Lacombe — eventually ending east of the village of Alix.
To the north, it would border the Wetaskiwin and Ponoka county borders.
Other parts of Clearwater County would be included in the proposed new boundaries including Mountain View-Kneehill and Banff-Jasper.
At its Dec. 16 board meeting, Wild Rose School Division (WRSD) voiced opposition to the changes.
Concerns surrounded representation, as WRSD is currently represented by one MLA within the Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre boundary, Jason Nixon.
With the county divided amongst three districts, the division is concerned that common rural interests would be diminished and legislative representation would be divided.
The board also directed administration to provide feedback on proposed changes to the Alberta electoral boundaries.
As such, it is providing feedback to the commission requesting no change to the current electoral boundaries.
The town of Blackfalds — which would be included in the new district –also voiced concerns.
Kim Isaak, town CAO, says the biggest concern is the socio-economic difficulties the boundary change risks.
In summary, she says the town is opposed to the proposed change.
