All the chilly fun of Crimson Lake Winterfest is set to return on Saturday Feb. 14 — with a special Valentine’s Day twist.
Along with all the usual family attractions such as pony and sleigh rides, ice fishing, ice skating and hockey, snowshoeing, carnival games and axe throwing, there will be a chance for couples to enter to win a prize package for Valentine’s Day including a romantic, private sleigh ride.
Of course, as part of Winterfest, the eagerly-awaited Freezin’ For A Reason Polar Bear Dip will return, and individuals — as well as couples — are encouraged to sign up.
For every $200 dollars couples raise for charity as part of Freezin’ For A Reason, they will be entered for another prize package, says organizer Aaron Townsend.
The polar bear dip has raised over $82,000 for charity over the past eight years, and Townsend says they’re hoping to break the $100,000 mark this year — especially with a previously cancelled Calgary-area polar bear dip joining the fun at Crimson Lake in 2026.
Anyone interested must raise at least $100 for a charity of their choice. While support for local initiatives is encouraged — Townsend says they won’t turn away people supporting good causes from anywhere.
Past fundraising efforts have supported organizations like Rocky Search and Rescue (SAR), the Rocky Library, The Rocky Organization for Animal Rescue (ROAR), STARS Air Ambulance, as well as local youth initiatives.
Despite the intense cold, a total of 21 total jumpers participated in the polar bear dip in 2025, raising over $8,100. Townsend says organizers are hoping for warmer weather in 2026, as the 2025 event went ahead despite frigid outdoor temperatures.
