It was a February sizzler as record-breaking warmth returned to the West Country yesterday, with both the Rocky Mountain House area and Nordegg area setting new daily high temperatures.
In the Rocky Mountain House area, the high reached 16.0 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record of 15.5 degrees set in 1992.
Nordegg also set a new record, with temperatures climbing to 14.4 degrees Celsius, breaking the old mark of 11.0 degrees from 1991.
Weather records in both communities have been kept since 1915.
Southern Alberta also saw record-breaking warmth.
The Bow Island area was the hottest spot in the province yesterday, reaching 20.3 degrees Celsius and setting a new daily record. The previous Feb. 4 record there was 9.8 degrees, set in 2012.
Records in the area date back to 1961.
The latest records follow a stretch of unseasonably warm weather earlier this month, when several Alberta communities also broke long-standing temperature records on Jan. 14.
