FMC Canada has introduced a new herbicide product at this year’s Ag Expo in Lethbridge.
The company says its product, Avireo, is the first pre-seed, pre-emergent herbicide in Western Canada to combine Group 27 and Group 14 active ingredients.
Bryan O’Hara, precision pack and burnoff portfolio manager with FMC Canada, says that combination is designed to help western Canadian farmers better manage broadleaf weeds such as kochia, lamb’s quarters, Russian thistle, volunteer canola and cleavers.
Significant time and effort has gone into developing the herbicide, says O’Hara, who adds it’s just one of seven new products set to be introduced in 2026 alone.
He says one feature of the Group 27 and Group 14 ingredient is that it can be applied earlier in the season, targeting weeds when they are smaller and potentially easier to control.
O’Hara adds that events like Ag Expo provide an opportunity to connect directly with producers.
“You see all the challenges farmers are facing — suppressed commodity prices — everyone’s feeling that,” he says. “We’re trying to stay close to farmers and determine how we can help address ongoing challenges.”
The Calgary-based company is among more than 300 vendors participating in Ag Expo, which runs Feb. 25 to 27 at the Lethbridge Trade and Convention Centre.
