The Rocky Museum will host Alberta Culture Days for the first time this fall, bringing a weekend of art, music and hands-on cultural experiences to the community.
The three-day event is set for Sept. 25 to 27, 2026, and will feature local and regional artists alongside live performances and workshops.
Organizers say the celebration will include an art show running throughout the weekend in the museum’s Lochearn meeting room. Featured artists include Margaret Bouwmann, Sharon Rubeling, Colleen Rudd, Karen Paquette and Lisa Head Harbidge.
Programming begins Friday evening with a painting workshop led by Kyla of the Travelin Gypsy Boutique.
On Saturday, participants can take part in African-style drumming sessions led by Corina Strim, including a session designed specifically for children.
The weekend wraps up Sunday with a live outdoor performance by the Abraham Lake Singers in the museum’s backyard.
Museum manager Jean-Marie Mason says organizers are seeking sponsors and in-kind support to help bring the inaugural event to life. An application for provincial funding has also been submitted through Alberta Culture.
In 2025, 111 organizations in 48 communities received grants from the province to put on events. In total, the grants were worth $380,000.
Among the highlights last year was free admission to 20 provincially-owned museums, historic sites and archives.
Sundre also observed Alberta Culture Days at Sundre and District Historical Society.
