Registration for Clearwater County’s annual roadside cleanup opens April 15 at 8 a.m.
The cleanup itself is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and is an opportunity for community groups to make a positive impact on the environment while earning funds for their local activities.
Once again this year, 45 sections of county-improved road is available to be cleaned and groups will earn $800 for each section of roadside they clean. Groups are encouraged to register early, as the process operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
Priority is given to youth groups as it helps raise funds for events like graduation or sports programs.
During the cleanup, drivers are advised to exercise caution and be on the lookout for signs and cleanup crews wearing high-visibility safety vests.
Materials for the cleanup can be picked up on May 4 and 5. Completed cleanups should be reported, with materials returned on May 11 and 12.
Cleanup sites stretch from the Withrow road on the east end of the county to west of Cow Lake. A link to the map of all 45 cleanup sites can be found here.

This event differs from the annual Highway Cleanup, which is also typically held in the spring to clean up provincial numbered highways in the region. Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors pays participating non-profit groups and clubs $100 per kilometre cleaned.
