Alberta Wildfire officials say the wildfire near Nordegg is now classified as ‘Being Held’, resulting in the evacuation alert for Nordegg now being lifted.
The wildfire discovered on July 19, about 19km west of Nordegg remains as being held at 507 hectares.
Officials say there are currently 72 wildland firefighters on hand, including one Agency Representative imported from British Columbia and two unit crews. There are also 24 firetrack firefighters with three wildfire support staff. The Incident Management Team is performing wildfire operations as well as two heavy equipment groups and two dozer bosses.
Officials note today, however, that helicopters will continue working on the wildfire from the air performing bucketing operations. Heavy equipment will continue to gain ground access and build a fire guard. The dozers will also be working along the southeast and southwest flank of the fire.
Structure protection is in place for the Dry Haven Area, Centre of Education, Frontier Lodge and Goldeye Lake structures.
