Northern Crossing Music and Drama Society is celebrating 40 years of musical theatre in the West Country with a new production running April 24 to May 2.
The show, Past, Present and Future, highlights the group’s history while looking ahead to future productions.
It’s set to feature throwback performances from years past, including favourite numbers from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Beauty and the Beast, Grease, and Chicago, along with selections from shows the group hopes to stage in the future, such as Big Fish, Spamalot, Wicked, Mamma Mia! and The Wizard of Oz.
Performances will take place at the Lou Soppit Community Centre.
Northern Crossing musical director Nicole Matheson says the show will strike a chord of nostalgia for those who have been attending for many years.
Over 40 years, Matheson says the group has featured everything from the more traditional Fiddler on the Roof and South Pacific to the more modern The Little Mermaid and Shrek the Musical.
She adds, around 21 cast members are set to take the stage — including those from older productions returning to reprise their roles.
This will be a show for music lovers, says Matheson, as while there will be some cast dialogue, much of the show focusses on musical performances.
“Our focus this year was to show the high quality singers and musicians that we have in Rocky Mountain House,” says Matheson. “I think people will really enjoy the amazing vocalists in this year’s production.”

Evening shows are scheduled for April 24 and 25, and May 1 and 2, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and curtain at 7:30 p.m.
A matinee performance is set for April 26, with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. and curtain at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $30, plus fees and taxes, and are available in person at The Burly Beard Tattoo Studio on Main Street or online through Showpass.
Tickets are also available at the door.
