The Rocky Mountain House RCMP are encouraging residents in Clearwater County to register for Community Assisted Policing Through Use of Recorded Evidence (CAPTURE) Program.
Police say the CAPTURE program is used for investigating crime and conducting neighborhood interviews to locate witnesses or Closed Circuit Televison (CCTV) video to assist in investigations. With the knowledge of private citizen security camera locations, Mounties note the time to conduct the inquiries could potentially be shortened and also provide key information that could aid with the investigation.
The RCMP says the primary objective of CAPTURE is to build a mapping program of security cameras in the community.
Staff Sergeant Carl Dinsdale of the Rocky Mountain House RCMP detachment said, “We have limited enrollment in the CAPTURE Program, currently less than 20 registrants.” However, Dinsdale strongly encourages any citizen of the Rocky Mountain House detachment area with surveillance or doorbell cameras to register with the CAPTURE Program.
Locally, Rocky RCMP have not received feedback as of yet, but Dinsdale said, “In Red Deer where the uptake by citizens, businesses and the city itself was significant, the feedback was very positive by both the public and police.”
Staff Sergeant Dinsdale expressed, “CAPTURE has the potential to be a valuable investigational tool for the Rocky Mountain House detachment that is a simple step for citizens of our communities to register and help look out for not only their own property, but that of their friends and neighbours.”
“Citizens should be reminded that there is no public exposure to those who register on the CAPTURE website, and no obligation of any kind to provide surveillance video to police, it’s all completely voluntary”, noted Dinsdale.
