Alberta Wildfire says the fire near Nordegg has gone down in size.
Officials say the size of the Black Mountain Fire was adjusted on Wednesday to reflect more accurate GPS information. As a result, according to Alberta wildfire, the wildfires size estimate was reduced by 27 hectares, bringing it down from 507 hectares to 480 hectares.
Officials say there are currently 70 wildland firefighters on hand, as well as two unit crews from B.C. Wildfire, three firetrack crews and one helitack crew from Alberta Wildfire. An Incident Management Team from Alberta Wildfire is also managing the response to the fire.
Officials note, however, firefighters will continue building a containment line around the wildfire’s perimeter. Helicopters will support firefighters with bucketing operations and heavy equipment is on standby.
The Evacuation Order has been lifted and an Evacuation Alert is now in place for Snow Creek Public Recreation Area (PRA), Dry Haven PRA, Centre for Outdoor Education, Fish Lake PRA, Frontier Lodge, Goldeye Centre, Goldeye Lake PRA and area.
The Snow Creek and Dry Haven Public Recreation Areas (PRA) are currently closed to the public to allow for safe firefighting operations. There is no public access to Snow Creek Road or Haven Road.
Watercrafts are not permitted on Goldeye Lake from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., to allow helicopters to safely scoop water from the lake. The area around the lake remains open to the public.
