Wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has climbed to high as warm temperatures and dry conditions continue across the region.
Alberta Wildfire says elevated temperatures and a lack of significant moisture have created favourable conditions for new wildfire starts, prompting officials to urge caution for anyone spending time outdoors.
Despite the heightened risk, there are currently no fire bans or restrictions in Clearwater County, the town of Rocky Mountain House, or within the Forest Protection Area.
Rain is forecast in the coming days and could help reduce wildfire danger levels, though officials warn possible thunderstorms may also bring lightning, increasing the chance of new wildfire ignitions.
West Country wildfire now under control
Meanwhile, a wildfire burning near the Forestry Trunk Road west of Sundre, is now listed as under control. The blaze, identified as RWF036, is estimated at 957 hectares.
Firefighters and helicopters remain on scene and visitors are being asked to avoid the area while suppression efforts continue. Officials warn, burned areas remain hazardous due to unstable trees and lingering hotspots inside the fire perimeter.
Speed reductions also remain in effect along the Forestry Trunk Road, to support firefighting operations. Motorists are being advised to check current road conditions through 511 Alberta and consider alternate routes when possible.
Since Jan. 1, the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has responded to 41 wildfires.
Officials are also reminding campers to use designated fire pits where possible, never leave campfires unattended, and ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving a site.
