A group of performers from Rocky’s Westland Dance Co. faced some tough competition at the Crystal Classic Grand Championship in Edmonton over the May 29-31.
Westland’s Level 5 group performed “I Will Walk With You” — a routine that earned them a first place finish at an April competition in Medicine Hat and an automatic spot in the finals.
Normally, Westland competes in the non-accelerated dance category. However, the Edmonton event blended the non-accelerated in with the accelerated — dancers who typically practice many more hours a week.
While the girls didn’t finish atop the standings, instructor Keanna Campbell says she was very proud of the group, as the judges scored their performance with an excellent ‘high gold’ certification.
She says, it was impressive to scored high gold, as the Rocky was the only non-accelerated group in that particular category.
Campbell said the Crystal Classic Grand Championship is a prestigious competition featuring top-performing studios from Alberta and British Columbia.

Gearing up for next season
Following the competition, Westland heads into summer break, but is already making preparations.
Preregistration for the 2026-2027 season opens June 2, and instructors are working on a schedule for next year.
Additionally, Campbell says excitement is growing as Westland will be travelling to California in October 2026 to perform in Disneyland’s Halloween parade.
