A man charged in a central Alberta homicide two years ago has been found guilty on three counts.
Elijah Traves Strawberry, 29, was found guilty of second-degree murder and two counts of robbery with a restricted/prohibited firearm in Calgary Court of King’s Bench on May 26, 2026. A charge of attempted murder was withdrawn.
He was scheduled for a jury trial in Calgary Court of King’s Bench from May 4-29, 2026.
It was on Feb. 28, 2025, when officers arrested Elijah Strawberry at the Red Deer Remand Centre where he was in custody on unrelated matters.
On Apr. 30, 2024, at approximately 12:07 p.m., Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a report of a deceased male on the O’Chiese First Nation. Officers attended and located 21-year-old Jayden Carter with a gunshot wound. As a result, the Alberta Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
Strawberry, a resident of O’Chiese First Nation, was originally charged with the following offences:
- Manslaughter;
- Fail to comply with a weapon prohibition order;
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon.
Strawberry was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded in custody.
His matters now return to Calgary Court of King’s Bench on Oct. 16, 2026, to set a date for sentencing.
