The fireworks display originally scheduled for Canada Day in Rocky Mountain House will now take place during Heritage Day celebrations on Aug. 3.

Everyone is invited to North Saskatchewan River Park at dusk, where organizers are promising a 15-20 minute fireworks show.

The decision to postpone the July 1 display was made early because of approaching storm clouds, said Dominic Hill, president of the Confluence Heritage Society.

Sure enough, the skies opened up and heavy rain moved into the area shortly after 6 p.m.

“The amount of rain we got that day probably would have ruined those fireworks,” Hill said.

Rescheduling the event was no easy task. Organizers had to reapply for permits, insurance and fire suppression services, while also ensuring there were no scheduling conflicts at the rodeo grounds.

Hill said organizers have now received all necessary approvals and are grateful to the town of Rocky Mountain House for its help with the rescheduling effort.

The Confluence Heritage Society also thanked event sponsors Optiflow Compression Services, Paramount Resources and Munditia Industrial Cleaning Services for their support.

Hill also thanked Rocky Search and Rescue for assisting with traffic control and Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue for providing fire suppression services.

Gates at the rodeo grounds open at approximately 9:30 p.m., with the fireworks display scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3.
