Alberta Open Farm Days is back for 2026 and will once again feature caravan-style tours to farms across the province, including several stops in Clearwater County.

Participants can carpool or drive their own vehicles while following a tour leader to four farms throughout the county.

Last year’s tour included a stop in Red Deer County. However, Nichole Robertson with the Rocky Ag Society said all four stops this year are within Clearwater County.

The tour will visit Mathey Farms in the Dovercourt Hall area, where visitors can learn about regenerative grazing and see pigs, chickens, sheep, cattle, turkeys and ducks. Other stops include Hamingja Heritage Farm and Nature Preserve north of Leslieville, which will showcase its sustainable farming practices and new trout pond; Little Farm on Wall Street, where participants can learn about the Krook family’s flower-growing operation; and Rocky Wolf Dog Farm, which specializes in raising wolf-dog and sled-dog puppies.

About 50 participants took part in last year’s event, travelling in three separate caravans.

Robertson said one of the Rocky Ag Society’s mandates is to provide educational opportunities for people who might otherwise never have the chance to visit a working farm.

She said families from Calgary and Edmonton have participated in previous tours, giving children an opportunity to learn more about where their food comes from.

The tour is free, but participants can purchase tickets to a farm-to-table dinner at Leslieville Hall afterward. Tickets are $50 for adults and $15 for children, while children under five eat free.

Now in its 14th year, Alberta Open Farm Days continues to grow in popularity. Robertson said some participants attend for the educational experience, while others are interested in learning more about agri-tourism.

Dozens of farms across Alberta will take part in this year’s event, with participating locations stretching from south of Medicine Hat to north of Cold Lake.

The Clearwater County tour begins the morning of Saturday, Aug. 15. Participants will meet at Leslieville Hall at 9:30 a.m. before travelling by caravan to the four participating farms.
