After returning home in 2025, the World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) Finals will once again be held at North Saskatchewan River Park from Aug. 12-16.
The Battle of the Rockies will feature nine heats of four chuckwagons each day over the five-day event, with a total of 36 drivers competing for the championship.
Following Saturday night’s races, the driver with the highest aggregate score will be crowned Battle of the Rockies champion, winning $5,000 cash and a buckle.
To end the weekend in thrilling fashion, the top four drivers in the weekend standings will advance to Sunday’s Dash for Cash for a chance to win $28,000 and the lease of a pickup truck for one year.
The driver with the most points all year will be named WPCA Champion at a season-ending banquet in October.
Last year’s ‘Rockies’ champions were Jason Glass and outriders Trey MacGillivray and Tyson Whitehead. The trio not only captured the 2025 Battle of the Rockies title but also set a Rocky Mountain House track record of 1:12.25.
The Battle of the Rockies caps a summer of WPCA events across Alberta, including the Battle of the Foothills in High River and the stampedes in Strathmore, Calgary, Ponoka, Medicine Hat, Teepee Creek and Wainwright.
The WPCA semifinals will be held the previous week during the Battle of the North in Dawson Creek, B.C., from Aug. 5-9.
Rocky Chuckwagon Association president Lillian Hay says organizers hope to build on a highly successful year in 2025.
“We had over 6,000 fans pay to watch the preshow and the chuckwagons,” says Hay, who estimates that when volunteers and other participants are factored in, it was actually closer to 8,000 people who contributed to the event last year.
Other highlights included Battle of the Rockies returning over $46,000 to the community through 50/50 sales and other streams.
Battle of the Rockies was also named the WPCA committee of the year and was awarded Discover Rocky’s 2025 tourism award at the Denim and Diamonds award ceremony in March.

Ahead of the chuckwagons racing, each night will feature an expanded preshow. Mini chucks will be seen Wednesday and Thursday night, while wild horse racing will be staged Friday and Saturday. Junior steer riding and trick riders will also return for all days.
The event will feature live entertainment with Hay saying organizers wanted to make it more family-friendly this year. Wednesday is an all-ages live DJ show, with Thursday’s show from Chris Leblanc also open to families. The following two nights at the Broken Spoke Saloon are 18+ with Foxx Worthee on Aug. 14 Jamie Woodfin on Aug. 15.
Each day will also feature a community theme:
Wednesday, Aug. 12: Stuff a Chuck Day in support of Tools for School for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5. Guests are encouraged to donate school supplies such as backpacks, crayons, pencils, lunch kits and notebooks.
Thursday, Aug. 13: Stuff a Chuck Day in support of Tools for School for students in Grades 6-12. Donations of binders, calculators, pens, notebooks and backpacks are encouraged. All donations stay local and directly support families in the Rocky Mountain House area.
Friday, Aug. 14: Stuff a Chuck Day in support of the Mountain Rose Women’s Shelter. Guests are encouraged to bring donation items to support local shelter programs.
Saturday, Aug. 15: Salute to Mental Health Day. Guests are encouraged to wear green and take part in a day focused on awareness, support and community connection.
Sunday, Aug. 16: Stuff a Chuck Day in support of the Lord’s Food Bank. Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or cash donations to support local families in need.

Admission is required for those aged 10 and older. Children aged nine and under are admitted free.
