Wildfire danger has climbed to high in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Protection Area.
Alberta Wildfire cites several days of warm temperatures and a lack of significant rain as the reasons for the designation.
With another stretch of warm weather in the forecast and little rain expected, officials say the wildfire danger is likely to continue climbing.
No fire bans
Despite the high wildfire danger rating, there are currently no fire bans or restrictions in Clearwater County, the Town of Rocky Mountain House or the Rocky Mountain House Forest Protection Area.

First wildfire-free August day in 40 years
Alberta Wildfire says Aug. 17 marked the first time in 40 years that there were no wildfires burning in Alberta’s Forest Protection Area during the month of August.
The situation has since changed. There are currently two small wildfires in the High Level Forest Area, both classified as held and measuring less than half a hectare.
Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen said in a social media post that the wildfire-free day was not the result of favourable weather alone, but of the work of “the men and women on the ground, our wildland firefighters, air crews, dispatchers and support staff, who have been out there since spring keeping fires small and extinguishing before they become disasters.”
Prevent wildfires
If you are camping or spending time outdoors, officials are urging caution with campfires and other open flames.
Keep campfires small and always have water nearby.
Never leave a campfire unattended, and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until the ashes are cool to the touch.
Wildfire situation
Since Jan. 1, 2026, the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has responded to 62 wildfires, which have burned more than 1,200 hectares.
