A less-than-ideal start to the season saw the Rocky Rams open the 2026-27 Heritage Junior Hockey League campaign with a pair of lopsided road losses.

The first regular-season game saw the Rams take on the Airdrie Techmation Thunder at Ron Ebbesen Arena.

Rams forward Xzayden Beaverbones opened the scoring with a first-period power-play goal, but it was all Thunder from there.

Rams defenceman Brawn McKay temporarily stopped the bleeding with a late first-period goal, but Airdrie scored another 10 unanswered goals over the final 40 minutes.

Final score: 13-2.

Sept. 26 at Okotoks

The Rams faced a similar result the following night against the Carstar Okotoks Bisons.

Rocky again opened the scoring, with Darren Strawberry finding the net at 7:22 of the second period.

The hometown Bisons then took over, scoring seven unanswered goals to run away with the game.

Final score: 7-1.

Rams continue road-heavy start to season

The Rams will continue their southern Alberta road swing with an Oct. 2 game against the Medicine Hat Cubs before wrapping up their road-heavy start to the season Oct. 3 in Coaldale against the Copperheads.

The team will make its home-ice debut Oct. 10 against the Strathmore Agra Risk Wheatland Kings.
