Clearwater County is inviting young residents to put their creativity to work by helping design a float for the annual Parade of Lights in Rocky Mountain House.
The county is holding its first float decorating contest, giving youth an opportunity to contribute their ideas and take part in the community event in a different way.
Ag Services Director Bettina van Nieuwkerk says the contest was created to encourage youth engagement and community involvement.
The initiative also provides an opportunity for children who may not be able to participate directly in the parade to have their ideas represented.
The contest is open to anyone aged 16 and younger, with one submission permitted per person.
Van Nieuwkerk says designs must reflect a positive community theme and be suitable for a family-friendly public event. She adds, entries should also be practical to build within the department’s available budget and timeline.
Entries can be submitted by email to communityservices@clearwatercounty.ca. Application forms are available on the Clearwater County website or through the Agriculture and Community Services Department.
The deadline to submit a design is Nov. 1, 2026.
The Rocky Kinsmen Parade of Lights is scheduled for the evening of Friday Dec. 4.
