Rocky Mountain House RCMP have charged two people in connection to an armed robbery earlier in the week.

On Sept. 20, at 8:30 p.m., Rocky Mountain House RCMP received a report of an armed robbery with a firearm at a retail business on the 5200 block of 48 Street in Rocky Mountain House. Upon arrival, Mounties were advised that an employee had confronted a male who was blatantly attempting to steal items from the store.

When confronted by the employee, police say the suspect produced a firearm from his waistband and pointed it at the victim. The suspect then ran from the store accompanied by a female who had entered the store with him.

Upon reviewing surveillance, RCMP identified both suspects who were known to the police. With the cooperation of several citizens of Rocky Mountain House and the assistance of an RCMP Police Service Dog, officers were able to track the suspects where they were subsequently arrested by police.

Follow up investigation led police to be able to track the suspect’s path after they had departed the store and recovered clothing worn at the time of the offence and the firearm used in the robbery.

RCMP have charged Anthony Deck, 28, a resident of Red Deer with:

• Robbery with a Firearm
• Firearms offences( x3)
• Uttering threats
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Mounties say Deck has been released by a Justice of the Peace on cash bail with his next court appearance set for Oct. 5, 2022, at Rocky Mountain House provincial court.

RCMP have also charged Nycole Martin, 23, a resident of Red Deer with:

• Theft under $5000
• Possession of stolen property
• Failing to comply with release conditions.

Police say Martin has been released by a Justice of the Peace on cash bail with her next court appearance set for Sept 28, 2022, at Rock Mountain House provincial court.

“This is a great example of the dedication, teamwork and efforts of the Detachment members, and the Police Service Dog unit, who responded to this crime and quickly had the suspects in custody with the involved firearm located and taken off the streets. It also highlights the importance of citizens being willing to assist the police with vital information when investigating any crime,” said S/Sgt. Carl Dinsdale, Detachment Commander at Rocky Mountain House.
