Clearwater County is set to take over operations at the Caroline Community Hub and Kurt Browning Arena in 2027.
The county and the Caroline & District Athletic and Agricultural Society are working together on the transition, which will also include the southeast recreation grounds. The new arrangement is expected to take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
The current operational agreement between the county and the Ag Society is scheduled to conclude Dec. 31, 2026.
Over the coming months, officials say both organizations will continue working collaboratively on transition planning to support facility users, residents, staff, volunteers and community stakeholders, while helping ensure continuity of services and programs with minimal disruption.
“The Caroline Community Hub and Kurt Browning Arena are an important part of community life in Caroline and the surrounding area. We appreciate the dedication and contributions of the Caroline Ag Society, its volunteers, members and supporters, and we look forward to continuing to work together,” said Reeve Jordon Northcott in a provided statement. “Our focus is on maintaining services, supporting facility users and building on the strong foundation that has been established over many decades.”
The facilities regularly host recreation, community events, agricultural activities, meetings and various programs.
A provided statement from Clearwater County says that since 1953, the Caroline Ag Society, alongside generations of volunteers, members, staff and supporters, has played a significant role in developing, operating and growing the facilities.
“The Caroline Ag Society is proud of the role our volunteers, members and staff have played in building and supporting these facilities over many decades,” said BettyLynne Burwash, facility manager. “We appreciate the community’s ongoing support and remain committed to working collaboratively with Clearwater County to support a smooth transition for residents and user groups.”
As transition planning continues, Clearwater County and the Caroline Ag Society will provide updates to residents, user groups and community partners.
Since Caroline amalgamated with Clearwater County in 2025, the county has increased its focus on the arena.
That included an Aug. 2026 decision to provide $3.97 million to replace the arena’s 40-year-old ice plant system.
