The Rocky Rams split their games over the weekend.
On Friday, the Red Deer Vipers rolled into Rocky. Unfortunately for the Rams, they would fall 5-2 to the Vipers. The Rams only managed to get 16 shots on net, far less than the Vipers 43 shots. The Rams special teams also struggled throughout the game, going one for seven on the powerplay and giving up four of five goals shorthanded.
On Saturday, the Rams travelled to High River in hopes of bouncing back after the 5-2 loss on Friday.
The Rams would start off great after captain Nick Jervis would score 8:11 into the first period with assists coming from Kyle Humphrey and Tristan Hoffus. The Rams would keep their foot on the gas and would go up 2-0 after Reid Christansen scored just minutes after. The Rams would not let up, taking a 3-0 lead late into the first period after Nick Jervis would score his second goal of the game.
The second period was a lot like the first for the Rams, as the Rams would strike fast into the period thanks to Reid Christansen scoring his second goal of the game at 3:33 with the assist coming from Tristan Hoffus to make it 4-0. Soon afterwards on the power play, the Rams would capitalize when Kyle Goodrunning found the back of the net, giving the Rams a 5-0 lead. Once again the Rams would light the lamp for their sixth unanswered goal of the game after Reid Christansen would score an unassisted goal to compete the hat trick and give the Rams a 6-0 lead.
The Flyers would finally solve Rams goalie Lex Watson 7:32 into the third period when Warner Wedenig scored to make it 6-1. The Flyers would keep the pressure on and would get their second goal of the game at 15:51 into the third, cutting into the Rams lead. However, the Rams scored one last time for the final goal of the game, beating the Flyers 7-2.
Lex Watson had an outstanding game between the pipes for Rocky stopping 34 of 36 shots. The Rams also managed to stay out of the penalty box, only taking one penalty.
Currently the Rams sit in third place in the Northern Division with a record of 3-5-2. The Rams are back in action Friday Oct 21, when the Cochrane Generals roll into town. Puck drop is 8:30 at Rocky Arena.
