West Central High School in Rocky Mountain House will be hosting a Career Discovery Day next week.
Crystal Stang, a high school teacher specializing in English and Fine Arts, as well as managing the work experience/RAP and Green Certificate programs, says she feel it is important to host a career day to expose the students to as many career choices and pathways as possible.
“The trades are a great avenue for many students, and range in diversity, matching the diverse needs and interests of our youth,” she explains. “Our career day will give students an opportunity to speak with experts in various fields and seek more information to better plan for their future.”
This year’s Career Discovery Day will consist of two components, the first one being an exhibition where you showcase your company, and second, is where a representative from the company acts as a mentor for a small group of students to explain what you do.
Stang says her hope is that the students walk away from this experience with information that will guide them to make choices about their future which is aligned with their interests and abilities.
“I hope that they will learn that there are many opportunities that exist and be inspired to pursue trades or training in the area,” says Stang. “I also hope that they will gain an appreciation of the scope of talented and hard working individuals we have in the Rocky Mountain House area. This is also an excellent chance to network with individuals who are experts in their field.”
Stang says they are thankful that so many tradespeople and businesses in the area are giving their time and energy in sharing their expertise with local youth, noting two main elements to the day.
Careers Next Generation and Keyera Energy will be presenting information about exciting new opportunities for students in the trades.
The deadline to register your company is Monday, Feb. 6. To register your company click, here.
The Career Discovery Day will start at 9:00 a.m. and run until 2:40 p.m.
