A Clearwater County resident has been charged in relation to a vehicle fire.

On Feb. 22, 2023, RCMP Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit were conducting spot checks on persons with history of property related crimes. Officers say they discovered a Dodge Power Wagon in Alder Flats, engulfed in flames. Mounties add, the vehicle had been stolen out of Drayton Valley earlier in the morning.

Murlin Scott Becker, 40, a resident of Clearwater County, has been arrested and charged with the following:

• Possession of stolen property over $5000
• Possession of break in instruments
• Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
• Arson
• Breach of release order x 3
• Breach of probation
• Operation while prohibited x 5

Police say Becker has been remanded until his next court appearance in Breton provincial court on March 2, 2023.
